SPC SOCIO-PASTORAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Quezon City

Backgrounder

"Caritas Christi Urget Nos," the age-old motto of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, has always motivated the Sisters to respond to anybody in need.  A street child wanting a home, an unwed mother in need of enlightenment, a beggar in need of food or clothing, a lost boy in need of guidance, a battered woman waiting for freedom---these and many more have been attended to by the SPC Sisters at one time or another--in their convents, in the streets, or right at the heart of their very ministries.

Any calamity outbreak--typhoon, fire, epidemic, grotesque accidents--the SPC Sisters are always present and ready to respond and bring Christ's charity...Christ's hope.  But these they do in coordination with or through Caritas Manila or other charitable agencies.  Their benevolent acts of charity are likewise implemented through their schools and hospitals' various community extension programs.  The SPC Congregation has not come up with a Center which plans and implements its pastoral ministry vince-wide, hence this project.

The Project

The old SPC Vigil House in Quezon City has been decided to be the Center for Pastoral Ministry in the Philippine Province.  The project dubbed as the SPC Socio-Pastoral Development Center, will plan programs, pool resources, implement activities, monitor and evaluate the same in a national scale.

     General Programs:

  • Catechesis and Basic Ecclesial Formation

  • Health and Family Life Education and Community Health-Based Program

  • Functional Education with Livelihood Skills Training Program

  • Disaster Management Program

  • National Volunteers Program

  • HRD for Pastoral Workers and Management Staff

  • Pastoral Formation Program

  • Resource Generation

  • Training Program

   Specific Programs

  •    Home for Street Children (girls)

Young girls roaming the streets of Quezon City, Cubao and nearby places will be provided a "home" where they can be totally rehabilitated.

  •    Crisis Intervention Center for Battered and Abused Women

A temporary shelter and in-depth counseling and spiritual formation will be given to battered and abused women for them to be empowered to reclaim their human dignity and fend for themselves.

  •    Training of Caregivers

Skill in giving care to the sick and the aged will not just be the focus of this program.  It will incorporate the human and the spiritual aspects together with the technical training.

The Appeal

This project, the SPC Pastoral Center, does not only need financial assistance for the renovation and refurbishment of the building, but also for its general and specific programs to be started and sustained.
